Our Breeding Philosophy

At Equinox Aussies, we are a small, hobby kennel located in the Richmond/Hampton Roads area of Virginia. We breed infrequently and take our responsibility to our dogs very seriously. All dogs used for breeding have had their hips certified through OFA (Orthopedic Foundatio for Animals), their eyes cleared through CAER (Companion Animal Eye Registry), and are considered by us to be excellent representatives of the breed in mind, body and spirit! We spend a considerable amount of time researching and planning our litters to ensure that we are producing puppies that we are proud to own and love and who will be welcome lifelong additions to the right loving family.

All of our dogs and puppies are registered with AKC and ASCA. Before leaving us, our puppies will have their first shots, dewormings, micochips and examination by a veterinarian. They will have their eyes checked by a Certified Veterinary Ophthalmologist.

All puppies are raised in and live in our home, have been exposed to other dogs, a large number of sights and sounds, children, and different terrains and environments in our home, yard and at a friends farm. We strive to produce well-adjusted puppies with outgoing and friendly personalities! Our puppies and adult dogs are raised with science based/positive reinforcement training. They are introduced to shaping, luring and capturing behaviors before they leave us. Our expectation is that our homes will continue to train using these methods as we have seen our dogs thrive on these training plans. Our adult dogs also live in the home and are our companions and members of our family first. They are show and performance dogs second.

All companion puppies are sold with a spay/neuter contract and registration papers (AKC and ASCA) without breeding rights. Companion puppies start at $2000 with a spay/neuter contract and full health guarantees. We place very few puppies as show/breeding prospects.

Our dogs have excelled in conformation, agility, rally, obedience, barn hunt, scent work, dock diving, coursing ability, herding, therapy work, and most importantly as wonderful companions. We typically have a waiting list for our current and upcoming litters. We believe that getting to know you better is the best way to choose the right puppy for your family. We welcome the chance to talk with you and answer any questions you may have about us, our dogs and Aussies in general. We do not place puppies based on color (coat or eye) but rather on temperament and compatibility to each individual home.
